Spot on, ML. I've been paying closer attention lately to how the activists frame their arguments and you're right: the ubiquitous 'patient I saw just last week [lol] who went from nearly dead to editor of the law review thanks to my masterful amputation work' might be someone a journalist would visit to corroborate the preacher's claim, yet that never seems to happen.

Thanks so much for this. Agreed, the Bowers' interview was a particularly damning part of The Protocol - though Ghorayshi fails to ask any questions that get to just how egregious Bowers' perspective is. It struck me that boys returning a year after surgery, ahead of which they had been "doing poorly in school" made them very young patients. And Bowers' name-calling, well, what I heard was a man being sexist and ageist all at once.
